Thank you for visiting Little Cedar Log Homes! We are a small family business specializing in the construction of cedar log homes and cabins. We offer our full range of log home construction services for locations within a 2 hour1, 2 radius of our home base near Stockton, Missouri. We have over 25 years of experience in the construction business, most of it building log homes. We also do frame construction (with log siding or conventional siding), additions, remodeling, and more... but we really love building log homes!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Black Walnut Festival in Stockton, Missouri!

We now sell many of the products we manufacture for our log homes. Cedar house logs, square logs, log siding, and dimensional lumber can be shipped directly to you. Please visit our products pages for information and pricing on specific items! Contact us if you have any questions or need pricing on a special order.

We are not a dealer for a national franchise, nor do we sell or assemble kits. We are a self-contained log home business. When you call us, you are speaking to the owner, builder and manager. We personally complete or oversee every aspect of the construction of your home, from selecting and milling the logs to varnishing and installing the final piece of trim. Our goal is to build a high quality log home for a reasonable price. We strive for perfection and attend to every detail.

We build our log homes one at at time, devoting our time and energy to getting one home finished before starting another. An average log home takes six to eight months to complete. Most of the homes we have built are in Mid-Missouri, although we have built a few in extreme eastern Kansas, and one near the Missouri-Iowa border. Please visit our Examples of Our Work page to see photos of these homes. Our Current Projects page describes the log home we are working on right now and lists our scheduled future projects. We try to update the photos often, so check back as often as you like!

LOGS

Our log homes are made of Eastern Aromatic Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), for its natural resistance to decay and insect infestation as well as its distinctive aroma. Cedar is the only species of log we use. We believe it is the superior species for log home construction, especially for the climate of Missouri. Red cedar is a beautiful wood with a pinkish-purple to orange-brown color, usually marked with creamy white marbling. Small crews and landowners selectively cut and deliver these logs to a small sawmill that squares them for us. We then custom mill the logs, "D-shaped" (flat on the inside and round on the outside) and tongue and groove on the top and bottom to help weather-seal them. At the job site, we cut the logs to length and assemble them using a through-bolt system to tightly bind the stacked log walls together. Please visit our logs & hardware page for more information about our logs and assembly hardware.

There are many cost variables in custom construction. Different choices in flooring, wall covering, windows, plumbing, etc. significantly affect the total cost of a home. Because of this variety of choices, we prefer to make a custom detailed estimate for each potential client. We do not have standard floorplans, either, which means that we work with each individual client to help them design the log home of their dreams.

LOG SIDING

This is a frame home with round log siding and log corner trim pieces!

For those who prefer frame construction over full log, we offer log siding. Our log siding, like our logs, is made only of eastern aromatic red cedar (Juniperus virginiana). Log siding can be installed on a new home or used for re-siding an existing home. It can be used on the exterior of the home, or inside to add the log home feel to interior rooms. The log siding is milled to match the profile of our full logs to retain the authentic log home style. Log corner trim pieces can be added to make the exterior of a log sided home indistinguishable from a full log home. Please visit our log siding page for more information of our log siding and trim options.

CEDAR LINING

new cedar lining photoWe again offer cedar lining for closets, chests and drawers. This wonderful wood is the same Eastern Aromatic Red Cedar we use to build our homes. It has long been used to construct cedar chests and cedar closets and is renowned for keeping moths out of clothes. The lining can be installed in new or existing homes of every type. Please visit our cedar lining page for more information.

DO-IT-YOURSELFERS WELCOME!

Some of our clients prefer to finish the interior of their own log home. Some want to do their own plumbing or drywall. That is fine with us. We will be happy to do as much or as little of the work as the client wishes. Some of the special craftswork we have done inside our log homes include building handrails and stairways of natural-shaped cedar logs, making arch-top pine doors, and building a custom redwood sauna. Whether you prefer a real log home or a log sided home; a complete turnkey home, or an enclosed shell to finish yourself, Little Cedar Log Homes can help you build the home of your dreams.
